The Robert Trent Jones Golf trail consists of 11 sites and 26 courses in the state of Alabama. This could possibly take several years to complete, but no time like the present to start planning.
Check the Robert Trent Jones Trail home site for more trail information.
We will add more details as they become available.
Make comments below and let us know your thoughts/availability to start scheduling some of these great courses!
I am gathering information about the trail to get things moving. After talking to the RTJ rep we are going to try to play all of the courses in 4 or 5 spring and fall trips. I picked two courses in Birmingham (Ross Bridge – 18 holes) & (Oxmoor Valley – 36 holes). The courses are about 2 miles apart and are a 7 1/2 hour drive. There are no direct flights to Birmingham fro STL so driving is the best option. We plan to go again in Sept/Oct to Muscle Shoals and Huntsville which are a couple hours closer.
Golf including range balls is $100 per round for each course in April. Weekend green fees are a $15 – $20 more than weekdays. They do have replay options for an extra charge. Oxmoor also has a 18 hole par 3 that we could add on as well. We want to go in April and I would assume that early April would be better for those going to the Derby too. In order to get pricing I picked a random weekend departing early afternoon on Thursday April 7 and playing golf April 8, 9 & 10 returning after playing golf on Sunday morning April 10. We will book whatever weekend works the best and if anyone is interested in stopping on the way back we could swing by Tunica on the way home?
RTJ has hotel options ranging from $140 to $250 per night. If we stay at the Marriott at Ross Bridge we have to pay around $250 for a room and drinks & food will be pricey.
I found a Hyatt a few miles from the course on the south side of downtown for $110 that includes free breakfast and a shuttle to the neighborhood bars. The rooms have two double beds and a sofa sleeper in the living room. so there is room for 3 guys in a room with separate beds. The total cost to stay at the Hyatt including golf would be approximately $630 single occupancy, $465 double occupancy & $410 triple occupancy.
We want to take advantage of this website to determine what dates are best for anyone who is interested in going on this leg of the trail. We have been advised to book around 60 days in advance to get the tee times we want so we would like to make a reservation by mid February. If you would like to join us please post the weekends in April that you are available. Once we get a consensus we can set the date. You can book later but we may not be able to get another consecutive tee time. Once we set the date I will reserve the rooms we need. Hyatt has a 24 hr cancellation policy.
There is a catch…..RTJ requires a $100 pp deposit @ booking for golf and the balance is due to the course 30 days before arrival. There is a cancellation policy. If you cancel 30 days prior to arrival there is a fee of $25, for cancellations 15 – 29 days the fee is $50 & for cancellations 14 days or less you forfeit your entire $100 deposit.
If you are not sure about going but are interested we could hold a room for you until 24 hours before arrival just in case you decide to book later. FYI – RTJ does not require deposits for reservations made 7 days or less prior to arrival.
I am sure there are a lot of issues I didn’t address so please post any suggestions or questions you may have. Please try to let us know if there are any dates that work for you by Sunday February 14 if possible.
Have fun in Vegas!!!

Just learned that the Vianney class of 76 reunion is April 8th. Last two weekends in April were not good for some of us so I am suggesting departing Thursday afternoon April 14 & playing April 15 16 & 17.
Please post your comments and let us know if you want to go that weekend or suggest any alternative dates that work for you.
I’ve played Muscle Shoals, Huntsville, and Birmingham courses. Closest drives are to Muscle Shoals and Huntsville, approx. 6 hours (unless Spin is driving). played them a long time ago but well kept at that time. Traditional RTJ, raised greens everywhere. No old man runups to the green allowed (sorry JB). Each location has 2 courses and sometimes a 3rd Par 3 course. Usually a nice clubhouse and hotels nearby. Well thought out.
I’m ready, just need a few weeks notice. We need to just start knockin’ em out, a couple at a time.
I have not played any of the Trail courses, but people that I know that have played, seem to think it is great.
Ken said he may be able to play the RTJ with us if he can get away rom work. He said “you do remember what is was like to work?” I replied that it’s becoming a distant memory and said that me Roger & Pat are living the dream.
Ken Miller has played most if not all of it. He could give us some good info but he doesn’t play anymore.
